Hope Andy gives serious thought to serving in a similar way to how he did tonight i.e. taking a lot of the first serve speed and seriouly upping his first serve percentage. It might be a case of not letting Young have too many looks at his second serve.
I also liked his solidness tonight and I think it might be good to go back to the Andy Murray style that just breaks an opponent down. It is not as spectacular as being aggressive, but frankly, might do the job best. I stand to be corrected of course (as ever Smile ).

I'm pleased to see Young is finally doing well. He's had a lot of expectation on him for a while now.
The last time he played Andy, he was in his 'post grand slam lull'. This time he will feel the full wrath of Andy.lol
    I say Andy in 4.

I'll happily take Andy in 4 but would definitely prefer Andy in 3 to put down a marker for the quarter finals.

I wonder if this will be another night match on Ashe, world no 4 takes on American wildcard. Hope so, think Andy prefers to play at night.

Problem is that there are 3 other Americans through to Round 4 in this half of the draw so the last 16 (or rather, lower half 8 men) are:-

    [21]Roddick v Ferrer[5]
    [28]Isner v Simon[12]
    [W]Young v Murray[4]
    Nadal[2] v Muller

I think they might put the Roddick match on as the first night match and perhaps Nadal/Muller as the 2nd day match on Ashe. Maybe Young v Murray as the 2nd day match on Armstrong? Isner/Simon a night match on that court?
    Probably got that all wrong!!!

No you're probably right Sally. I imagine that Roddick will get the night match on Ashe and yes Isner/Simon night on Armstrong. I hadn't looked at the bigger picture but what you suggest def makes sense.

Watched some of Andy's match with the American commentators who didnt seem that impressed. They thought he wasnt as good or playing as well as the other top three and wasnt a shotmaker.

Roddick has already had two night matches on Ashe. Fed also (inc. tonite). Can't believe Djoko is on Armstrong. Neither Djoko nor Andy have had primetime night matches. Saturday and Sunday don't count coz CBS had the daytime coverage only.

Anyway, I hope that they give the Ashe nighttime slot to Young instead of Roddick.

Crafty Americans putting Andy on at 11am in the hopes the Don can catch him still asleep. . .

Seriously, with the weather forecast so poor it may well be a good thing to get on early and get it over before the deluge starts.

Last night Andy played a perfect match against Feli, but during the match you could hear the silence of the crowd (so to speak Smile ).It was an exhibition and not much entertainment for the neutral tbh. Andy did not have to hit bombs but keep the ball in play, and in play, and in play, Feli UE. Thank you very much. This is working. Do it again.

Andy is a shotmaker when he has to be, but sometimes the safest way to win for him is to get inside an opponent's head. We spent a lot of time in the last eighteen months encouraging Andy to be more aggressive, but that does not mean that his grinding-down-the-opponent-in-their-head-don't-know-if-they-are-coming-or-going style is not good, especially against players ranked outside the top twenty. Perhaps D. Young. Not sure.

So all in all, I understand why Andy was not top of the list to have a night match for the organisers.

    C'mon Andy!

I just think in terms of pecking order they've got Roddick who is always a crowd-pleaser on his home turf, Nadal who is #2 and Isner who again will go down well in front of an American crowd.
Andy v DY was always going to be down the list of priorities.

If he gets his match done pdq he'll have the maximum amount of time to rest/train ahead of a Quarter Final.

Am pleased he's playing so early for you. I can't follow the match regardless of how much I'd like to (got evening shift the night before and early morning shift next morning) so I can just check the scoreline before I go to work. sunny

I know Andy doesn't like early starts, but being selfish it's great not having to stay up late (assuming the weather allows play earlier).
I'm sure that after the match at Indain Wells Andy won't underestimate Young. If he can get finished before the rain, he may find the others are playing catch-up interms of getting matches played Smile
