Gilles, from the part of the match I saw, seemed to be having success against Isner hitting the ball into "no man's land" i.e. not a mid-court sitter but mid-distance to the side. Reminded me of the early match (or two?) of Andy against Potty, a similarly tall guy, when Andy did the same. Food for thought.
So frustrating though of course. Simon would seemingly get an advantage then bang, an ace and BP gone.
Andy will have to be so, so patient and concentrate and focus on holding serve first and foremost and then taking any changes that come on Isner's serve, and be resilient if he doesn't get the BP due to an unreturnable (even for Andy) serve.
Andy did not need to use that much energy today and played earlier than Isner and not much more than half the time on court as big John so I hope they are scheduled early tomorrow!
    C'mon Andy!

Judy has just tweeted "Ashe. High noon". I presume that's Andy vs Isner.

Andy played against him in Hopman Cup 2011 and won easily but it doesn't count in their H2H. A slam on USA soil is different of course but Andy is capable of beating him.

Hope he comes out firing tomorrow. Good luck Andy!

Btw if Muzza and Roddick win tomorrow, our Andy might have to beat 3 American players in a row to reach the final, but Nadal is absolutely the favorite in his QF match.

I thought that!!! Young - Isner - Roddick.

Just wonder if ARod could really beat Rafa? On fire he could (as he beat Andy at Wimbledon in 2009) and anything could happen in a Slam!

Very nervous about this one. I hate watching Isner - to a large extent his serve is all he has. Simon was winning his own service games fairly cleanly, without having to serve the bombs that Isner does, because Isner is really vulnerable in rallies except........when he gets to the net. Even Andy might have trouble passing that wing span. So Isner's serve and chances to get to the net are going to be crucial to him and for Andy, hanging onto his own serve and keeping Isner back and on the back foot are going to be crucial.

Course the other thing is, that the last thing Andy or we want is a long drawn out match like Isner had against Simon yesterday. Unfortunately can't see it being a quickie unless either is below par. Can but hope that Isner will be. The time is going to be vital for whomever going into a semi because I think the Rafa/Roddick match won't be a long one.

    GOOOOOOOOOOOO ANDEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!

Watching the Isner/Simon match last night was so frustrating - Simon was the better player in the rallies but yet Isner won in the tie-breaks.

I'm a bit nervous about this one. Have to hope that Andy serves well and definitely that he returns very well. Really don't want the sets to end up in tiebreaks!

Was so hoping that Simon would beat Isner, as he was playing some great tennis, on the other hand did not see any great tennis from Isner it's just that big serve that gets him through. Hopefully Isner is a bit tired today and the serves are not so good, I know as if! This is going to be a very nervous game for us all. Hoping Andy comes through in 4. C'Mon Andy bounce

this is a career high for isner he has never previously gone beyond the last 16 in a slam, like david says andy just has to patient and play smart tennis. lets see how effective the big mans serve is once Andy has chopped the legs out from under him

Jay, you just made me laugh and feel a whole lot better - still nervous though.

One thing that has occurred to me is that, given that Andy probably feels the rest of this tournament is now an almost impossible task, as do the media, for his half of the draw, it may just take the pressure off because any extra round is just a bonus rather than a must do?

Andy will be fine. Apart from a big serve which Andy can deal with, Isner isnt all that special. Keeping the ball low and running him around a lot should do the trick.

Andy needs to concentrate and he shouldn't lose his serve. Isner's serves are huge but apart from that Andy's much better in every aspect of the game. Don't think it will be easy, especially if John's serve is fire but I expect Andy to come through.

Best of luck Andy, would be nice to do it without any wasted time! Smile

Totally agree Lindsay. Andy did just that when he played Isner at Aus 2010 and it was a straight sets victory. Andy will have too much for Isner today as well.
