Awwww we didn't get to see that Sad

Brad asked him why on earth Andy was so nervous and Andy replied that it was a massive adjustment coming to a stadium as big as AA. Then Brad ribbed him about the bright red he was wearing and Andy ripped into Brad's idea of fashion. Good stuff!

A pretty impressive start there - and Andy's forehand was working fantastically well. Maybe a little too well...

Great! I'm pleased Andy won sunny - he just has to make it to round 3 and then he's defended his points. Anything after that is a bonus... I'm greedy for him. Twisted Evil

Sad that Laura lost, but glad she'll make it into the top 150 or whatever.

Wahey! Apart from the nervey start, solid win for Andy! I only caught most of the first set but saw some beautiful rallies from Andy! Always seemed in control even when behind then! And it's only the start so still plenty more from Andy! cheers cheers cheers

Anyone know if we can watch the post match interview with Brad? Would love to see it!

Oh and I LOVED andy's red outfit Smile

I was a bit annoyed at Andy's slow start I have to confess but bottom line after the year he has had is he has won the first match of a North American hard court tournament for the second time this year and hopefully has now played himself into the tournament, got the nerves more settled and can move forward with growing confidence. I bet he is relieved the first match is over, and relatively pain-free.

I thought Andy played a very solid match yesterday. Yes he had the slow start what with the nerves but he weathered the storm of the first set brilliantly and played some great tennis in the 2nd and third sets. Some of Andy's shots blew me away with how hard he was hitting the ball. At one point I said to my husband, 'and some complain that he isn't aggressive enough!" Wouldn't want to have been on the receiving end of one of those shots.

Slightly frustrating to drop serve when serving for the match but he responded in style. Had to laugh at all the 'shocked' smileys on here following that game.

    Andy's looking good people!

"After the year he has had ?" I think he has had a great year, 1 slam final and 2 slams semi finals, 1 ATP 1000 and a win @ Queens. that is wonderful. cheers cheers

I think David was referring to his matches on the North American hard courts, which before Cinci, are best forgotten!

    Thank you Madeline.
Andy has been like the Grand Ole Duke of York this year: "And when he was up, he was up and when he was down, he was down". My point was that Andy has tended to exit in his first match (especially on North American Hard Courts) or go on and do very well in tourneys and so getting the first match out of the way is more of a relief and important than in prevous years!
